Plants shrubs or small trees, all parts glabrous and resinous when young/ Leaves simple; petioles short; blades narrowly elliptic to narrowly obovate, bases attenuate, margins entire, tips usually acute, rarely rounded to truncate. Infloresences terminal or axillary, paniculate, 1-4 cm long, often merging into a compound terminal inflorescence. Flowers pedicellate; pedicels 2-7(-12 in female flowers) mm long; sepals 4, ovate, 2-3.5 mm lonG, 1.5-2 mm wide, yellowish green, shortly united at the base; stamens (5-)7-9(-10), subsessile; anthers about 3 mm long; styles 4-7 mm long, 2-3-fid; stigmas 2-3 mm long. Fruits circular in outline, 0.7-1.6 cm long. 1-1.8 cm wide, yellowish with reddish tinged wings; seeds suglobose to lens-shaped., about 3 mm long and 2 m wide.
Dodonaea viscosa has two varieties. So far, the only one known from Somailand and Somalia is Dodonaea viscosa var. angustifolia. The other, Dodonaea viscosa var. viscosa is know from Kenya and elsewhere along tropical shores in Africa, Asia, Australia, Pacific Islands, and the Americas.
